I have just watched Iranium, and a couple of things I would recommend reading if you want a balanced view.
Personally, I don’t think the current Iranian regime is a good thing, but it’s not much worse than the dictators the west keeps in power in the Middle East. I also don’t believe you can bomb people into democracy. And given the mischief the CIA has been up to over the years I don’t trust them or the pro-Bomb Iran lobby, it’s all about Oil.
How come we want to liberate the people of Iran from dictatorship, but we support Saudi Arabia and Egypt?
Anyway, you should read up on who put Iranium together: http://www.richardsilverstein.com/tikun_olam/2010/03/27/clarion-fund-mystery-donor-to-inject-millions-in-november-elections-throgh-iran-mushroom-cloud-propaganda-film/
Two of the interviewee’s (Frank Gaffney and Reuel Marc Gerecht) helped write ‘Project for New American Century’: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Project_for_the_New_American_Century
“Iran has held the international community hostage for more than 30 years” and is “the world’s largest sponsor of terrorism”
Dore Gold – Iran helped the 9/11 attacks
This is the same allegation thrown at Iraq in the build up to Gulf War 2. All of the 9/11 hijackers were Saudi’s. Dick Cheney admitted that Saddam had no involvement.
Iran is Training the Taliban
Probably true. Both of the unfortunate circumstances in Iran and Afghanistan involve western interference. We overthrew democracy in Iran because they were nationalising their oil.
- The 1953 Iranian coup d'état, on August 19, 1953 (known as the 28 Mordad coup in Iran), was the overthrow of the democratically elected government of Iranian Prime Minister Mohammad Mosaddegh orchestrated by the intelligence agencies of the United Kingdom and the United States. The coup launched 26 years of dictatorship under Mohammad-Rezā Shāh Pahlavi, who relied heavily on U.S. support to hold on to power until the Shah himself was overthrown in February 1979.
Afghanistan fell to communism in the 70’s, so the CIA helped the mujahideen. America pushed Afghanistan into the dark ages because ‘better dead than red’
- “Every country and every people has a stake in the Afghan resistance, for the freedom fighters of Afghanistan are defending principles of independence and freedom that form the basis of global security and stability.” – Ronald Reagan
What makes this situation really ironic is that the Neo-Conservatives who took us to war with Iraq (our ally and friend in the Iran-Iraq war) now want a Marxist revolution (which Afghanistan was not allowed) in Iran (which is now a religious hell hole because the west overthrew their democracy).
As for the threats (which included graphics from Fox News), the threats were...
1) Iran will be able to launch nuclear strikes against Europe (as were Iraq which proved to be lies)
2) Iran will be able to attach America
a. From Freight Ships off of the coast of America
b. Through smuggling routes of Mexican drug cartels it has alliances with
c. And the best one, an EMP attack (so says Frank Gaffney)and within a year, 9 out of 10 Americans would be dead. Frank Gaffney also said...
“He [Saddam] kept saying he was going to try to get even against us for Desert Storm, so it wouldn't be unreasonable for people to conclude maybe that that's what he was doing. There is also circumstantial evidence, not proven by any means, but nonetheless some pretty compelling circumstantial evidence of Saddam Hussein's Iraq being involved with the people who perpetrated both the 1993 attack on the World Trade Center and even the Oklahoma City bombing."
